Swimming Time

About Me

Sam's life, from the very start, revolved around water. His parents met in a swimming club and started him swimming before he could walk! From a young age, teaching has come naturally to him and it is something that he truly enjoys.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking with friends and playing Ultimate Frisbee, including helping to coordinate a weekly social league.

Some life highlights that paved the way for him to start offering private swimming lessons:
  • Going through the Royal Life Saving Society Australia awards up to Award of Merit level (two levels above Bronze Medallion) and competing as a junior Surf Lifesaver
  • Competing at state competitions for Norwood Morialta High School and then going on to coach the squad there for three years.
  • Instructing at multiple VacSwim programs and coordinating a regional program
  • Working at Norwood Swim School (formerly StateSwim Norwood) where, over seven years, Sam progressed from being a trainee instructor to being a Supervisor as well as performing the role of temporary duty manager. Sam had a leading role to play in the creation of the new 'beginner' swimming class format for children four years and older.

Sam has taught swimming lessons for those aged 3 to 83 (and every decade in between!), specialising in teaching:
  • children and adults with a fear of the water,
  • swimmers stuck on a particular skill showing minimal progress,
  • children with behaviour management issues, and
  • children and teenagers with a disability.
